M-Wear has been and is still in the process of being devised by a breastfeeding mother of a toddler. Wanting to breastfeed for an extended period of time has left me wondering what to wear when going out many a time. Moreover, living in India, Germany, and the Netherlands confronted me with different standards of acceptance of breastfeeding in public. While initially I made do with breastfeeding T-Shirts and Sweaters, the question came up how long I would manage with this limited choice. And what about occasions when I wanted to dress up? While cutting up T-Shirts teamed with an easy-to-slip-off-the-shoulder dress and similar measures were options too, I wanted to wear cuts that I liked in the rich colors of Indian fabrics. The richness and variety of Indian colors and fabrics determine the undertone of our collection now, ranging from block prints to batiks, plain south cottons, jutes, and timeless linen. The cuts represent a fusion between the Indian kameez or kurta style tunic and a blouse, in varying lengths, and more or less fitted around the chest and waist – just as you like it. Making the first tunics inspired me to take my project one step further and design matching children’s clothes, teamed up with accessories such as shoulder bags. During the most recent stage I added the +Size range of tops, jackets, and blouses, for those who appreciate or need the extra comfort also after the breastfeeding stage.
